XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)–last 5 year trends

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) conducted by Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) is being now held for 60 years in India as well as abroad in conventional paper-pen mode to select the most appropriate candidates for management education. It is considered the most prestigious exam in India after CAT. More than 90 thousand student appears in the exam every year. More than 150 Institutes accept XAT Score including top management institutes of India XLRI Jamshedpur, XIM Bhubaneswar, SPJIMR Mumbai, IMT Ghaziabad, FORE School of management, IFMR Sricity, GLIM, XIME Bangalore XISS Ranchi and Others.

The thought behind keeping XAT based on paper pencil mode, according to XLRI admission Chair is to ensure that all the candidates from varying backgrounds are at par.This reason may not be valid anymore. The paper-pen mode also aims to test all the candidates on exactly the same set of questions, and not on different sets.

Composition of XAT: XAT consists of following 2 parts divided in 5 sections. Scores in 3 sections in Part-1 are accounted for to arrive at the percentile score. Sections in Part-2 are qualifying and assessment on them is made at next admission stage.

Exam Pattern:

The examination is conducted for 3.5 hours.

There are total five sections in two papers.

Paper 1 is in objective, multiple choice questions format and comprises of questions based on English Language, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Decision Making. 3 hours is the stipulated time allotted for this section.

Paper 2, is a mix of partly subjective and partly objective type that having 2 sections – General Knowledge and Essay Writing. A total of 30 questions need to be attempted in 30 minutes.
